January is undoubtedly a time of fashion fatigue. Heavy coats, scarves, and the ubiquitous black tights tend to dominate our wardrobes more than we’d like them to.
But when Sienna Miller step out in a pair of effortless trousers in London, it made us rethink the power of a pair of statement-making pants. The oversized trousers featured a high paper-bag waist—an unusual flattering silhouette. Plus, she styled them with a minimalist black sweater. Simply put, the pants are the perfect and easy way to make a plain sweater and pants ensemble instantly interesting.
Proving that you can use just about any pair of breezy pants to transform an outfit during the winter doldroms, Miller also recently wore a pair of black culottes with a white tee and a pair of Adidas Stan Smiths to the airport. While her outfit was intrinsically casual, the pants could also be dressed up for work or for an event by swapping out the tee for a blouse, crop top, or even a sweater, which could look pretty cool with fashion’s favorite coat right now: the puffer.

Miller has always had enviable style. In November, she starred in Burberry’s holiday film—a gorgeous three-minute clip centered around the founder of the brand, Thomas Burberry. In terms of her personal style, she’s been known to wear boho off-duty staples like floral dresses, ripped jeans, and toughed-up ankle boots.
But best of all, the star’s high-waisted pants and culottes ensembles look as comfortable as they are chic—a necessity when flying or navigating the busy city streets. So, whether you’re planning a trip overseas or just in need of a wardrobe refresher, consider the humble trouser as your new go-to.
