Two major sartorial events took place on Friday, January 20. In D.C., the eyes of the fashion set were focused on Melania Trump’s powder blue ensemble designed by industry juggernaut Ralph Lauren. At the same time, Riccardo Tisci mesmerized the crowd in Paris with his American West-inspired menswear and couture collection for Givenchy. The fashion festivity wasn’t without standout names of its own: As expected, Tisci and his casting director, Patrizia Pilotti, brought back familiar faces, like veterans Liya Kebede and Joan Smalls, and “It” girls Kendall Jenner and Bella Hadid to present the designer’s extravagant yet homey couture creations.
Jenner made her way down the runway wearing a Little House on the Prairie-esque, gingham number that perfectly translated the Western theme. Hadid followed suit with a scallop-fringed halterneck dress. The rest of the couture looks included outfits that evoked the spirit of the West in the 19th century, with standout pieces like tailored fringed jackets, loose stirrup pants, and glammed-up saloon gowns with feather details.
As for Tisci, rumor has it the designer is reportedly in talks to make the move to Versace. Will this be one of the last Givenchy collections we’ll see from the designer? Let’s hope not. Until then, feast your eyes on some of the glorious looks from the runway:
