When it comes to lip lingo, the only phrase buzzier than liquid lipstick is lip kit. Tarte, Stila, and Huda Beauty have all tried out the two-piece trend. M.A.C. Lip Kits, however, have basically existed before Kylie Jenner even entered the world as the future queen of lipstick-and-liner duos. Of course, they weren’t packaged as a pair in a box emblazoned with a dripping plush pout. But people have been pairing M.A.C.’s nude lipsticks and liners since the cosmetic company first debuted in the ’80s. Kylie herself used to be obsessed with the brand’s popular shades Soar and Whirl before making her own neutrals. (If you don’t believe us, just ask her makeup artist, Ariel Tejada.) Coincidentally those shades are also in Caitlyn Jenner’s M.A.C. collection. But back to the lip kits. Now, you can shop pre-selected combo sets at select department stores.
Unlike the Kylie Cosmetics version, a couple of the seven M.A.C. Lip Kits available come with a different colored lipstick and lip liner. (All of the Kylie Kits include matching liners and lipsticks.) But don’t worry, the M.A.C. Lip Kits are still a perfect pair. Take the Mehr set, which comes with a lipstick in, well, Mehr (a cool-toned rose) and a liner in Soar (a dusty rose). The darker pencil helps give the lighter lip shade a bit of definition—almost like Huda Kattan’s lip contouring technique. Other options on the pink side include Whirl, which comes with both lipstick and liner in a mauve rose shade, and Twig, which includes a lipstick in Twig (a satin brownish pink) and a lip pencil in Half Red (a soft burgundy). If you prefer your neutral shades to be more brown, you can choose from these lipstick/liner twosomes:
- Taupe (yup, it’s exactly what it sounds like) and Hover (a rich caramel brown)
- Stone (a gray-toned taupe)
- Velvet Teddy (a deep beige) and Boldly Bare (a rosy brown)
- Honeylove (a pinky beige) and Subculture (a pinky brown)
Each M.A.C. Lip Kit is available now for $29 each on [macys.com](http://www1.macys.com/shop/makeup-and-perfume/mac-cosmetics?id=45678&edge=hybrid&cm_kws=mac} and nordstrom.com. TBH that’s a pretty sweet deal considering if you tried to coordinate your own Lip Kit, it would cost you $5.50 more. With that in mind, you might as well take advantage of these convenient sets while you can. They may disappear just as quickly as they popped up in our lives.
