By now we know that all those Instagram fitness models don’t actually look that toned and defined all the time. We’ve seen enough 30-second transformation photos to know the ones that typically make it to Instagram show them flexing and posing to look their best. But what if we told you that pretty much nothing you see on Instagram was real? That’s what one blogger set out to show us with her most recent transformation pic.
Madalin Giorgetta posted her own 30-second transformation photo on Instagram, showing herself in one photo looking thinner and more toned than in the other. In the photo’s caption, Madalin reveals that in reality, neither picture is an accurate representation of what she actually looks like. In one photo, Madalin writes that she was pushing her hips forward, making them appear wider and making her stomach seem more prominent. In the second photo, Madalin has pushed her hips back, making them look slimmer and her stomach look more toned. The message? Nothing is as it seems.
“I don’t look like either in real life… in real life I’m not flexing like on the right and I’m not pushing my hips forwards like in the left,” she wrote of the video in the Insta below. “Real life isn’t what you see on Instagram peeps.”
Of course, this is the message of every 30-second transformation, but because Madalin doesn’t actually look the way she does in either of these photos, hers is pretty unique. It really drives home the points that what we post on social media is carefully chosen to make us look one way or another. This, of course, is something we all know from our own social media habits, but for some reason we don’t always believe it’s true of other people. Madalin proves that no matter how we appear on social media, it’s something we’ve chosen and groomed.
If you really want to know what Madalin looks like, you’ll have to catch her in action. In real life, Madalin says she’s chasing her cat around her apartment, picking apart reality TV with friends, or cuddling with her boyfriend. Since most of us only know her from Instagram, we might not ever know what she really looks like, and that’s OK.
